Community clears school garden
Posted: 26th March 2020Families gave up their weekend to help create a garden within their local school.
Forest Hall School invited students and their families to spend their spare time helping to clear an overgrown area.
The school has been taking part in the Royal Horticultural Society’s Campaign for School Gardening project The Green Plan It Challenge.
A team of Year 8 students planned and built a model of a garden they would like to see in their community.
Daniel Ricketts, gardening club leader, said: “The school community came together to drive forwards progress on our garden project by spending a morning clearing brambles and cutting back plants, creating pathways for improved access and building compost areas for the continued development of the area.
“We’d love to see even more students and their families come along and make this school their school. Whether you can spare 30 minutes or three hours, any time given is hugely appreciated.”
The project has been given £500 by the Ernest Cook Trust to buy welly boots and waterproof clothing for outdoor work, £500 from Stansted Parish Council to buy materials for the garden and £200 from Forest Hall School PTA. The Royal Horticultural Society is also contributing up to £1,500.
