Students visit Danish friends
Posted: 18th July 2018Danish friends made during a visit to Stansted hosted students from the village on a return exchange trip.
A group of Danish students from Søndervangskolen in Hammel, part of one of Europe’s largest farming estates, experienced life in the UK during a three-day visit to Forest Hall School last year.
Students from Year 7, 8 and 9 from Forest Hall took part in the return exchange, spending four days with host families.
The group, along with their teachers, visited a museum showing Denmark through time, a gallery and a street food market, as well as experiencing time in school.
Debbie Round, subject lead for maths, said: “Some of these students had never been away from their parents. They got a sense of independence and realised they can do so much on their own.
“It was also an opportunity for us all to experience a different school in a different area to what we are used to.”
Stephen Hehir, executive head, said: “This was such a wonderful opportunity for the students of our school and is something we aim to continue in future years.
“It is so important in our world today that young people realise even though they live in different countries and speak different languages, they have so much in common with each other. Celebrating differences and learning about each other will make our young people more well-rounded citizens of the future.”
