Mollie King's Personal Message to Students

Mollie King's Personal Message to Students

Posted: 12th October 2017

Children with dyslexia have received a personal message of encouragement from The Saturdays singer Mollie King.

The star took time out of her busy training schedule for Strictly Come Dancing to film a message for students at Forest Hall School.

The school has a Dyslexia Support Unit (DSU) which helps students with an education healthcare plan to reach their full potential through specialist teaching.

Mollie, who is a friend of a Forest Hall family, said in her personal message: “Hi Forest Hall! I wanted to send you guys a message because I’m dyslexic and I just wanted to say don’t ever let it hold you back. Some of the most intelligent, creative people I know are also dyslexic so it’s nothing to be ashamed of.

“Believe in yourself, never let it stop you from going for your dreams and if I could give you all a big cuddle right now I would!”

She then introduced AJ, her professional dance partner from Strictly, who also revealed he has dyslexia.

The pair told students to never let dyslexia hold them back.

The videos were shown during a whole school assembly this week demonstrating how celebrities and previous students have overcome difficulties with their learning to achieve great things.

Sue Flood, head of the DSU, said: “We tell all of our students that it doesn’t matter what your difference is, you can still reach your goals. Whether it’s reading or spelling or sport you struggle with, it’s about having a go and keeping at it. The person sat next to you may be better than you at history, but you’re better than them at geography; it’s about finding something and not giving up. It’s about celebrating our differences; we do not all want to be the same.

“We concentrate on positives surrounding being dyslexic. For celebrities to take time to share their own experiences of becoming successful in their field despite any difficulties is such a great thing.”
