Year 6 attend secondary taster sessions - online
Posted: 21st October 2020Children are getting a flavour of what life at secondary school is like – via the internet.
With restrictions meaning schools cannot hold their usual open events and taster days, alternative ways of showing prospective students around are being offered.
Pupils keen to find out more about Forest Hall School are being given the chance to attend sample lessons in the virtual world.
Yoga, PE, science, food technology and design technology sessions are being held over three weeks for Year 6 primary school pupils to log in to.
Sarah Power, enrichment lead, who held the yoga lesson, said: “We are offering these sessions to give next year’s Year 7 students a taster of what a regular day is like at Forest Hall. These are all classes we offer as enrichment clubs.
“At our traditional open evening, children would get to see the different departments and to ask questions. We would be able to have a chat and get to know each other. The next best thing is to do all of this online.
“The first taster session of yoga was a real success. Year 6 pupils were all able to turn on their mics and greet one another with the word ‘namaste’ and those who were comfortable turned on their camera to do their yoga poses. Dancer pose was a favourite by far.
“I’m really looking forward to meeting some of them next year when they join Forest Hall School.”
We also have a virtual open event film which you can view below.
The admissions deadline for Year 7 places in September 2021 is October 31, 2020. Contact admissions@bmatforesthall.org.uk for more information about Year 7 places and mid-term admissions.
