Families set daily challenges
Posted: 22nd April 2020Families were set daily challenges to get them through the school holidays in lockdown.
With the traditional Easter half-term break seeing families staying home as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, Forest Hall School wanted to ensure our community was kept occupied.
A list of 60 suggested activities were sent home to students with the challenge of picking one per day to complete.
Challenges included –
- making a birthday card
- visiting a virtual zoo
- writing a blog about something they enjoy doing
- writing a letter to an elderly relative
- learning British Sign Language
- ·researching three jobs that interest them
Kayleigh Trainor, assistant head, said: “We did not want students to focus so much on completing schoolwork over the Easter break as they had spent the previous few weeks working at home. But, we appreciated that for some of our students, a daily focus was still important. Many of them would have been coming into school for half-term revision sessions or would have been on holiday with their families under normal circumstances.
“The aim of the daily challenge was to ensure our students were spending quality time with family members, with tasks ranging from helping around the house, learning a new skill such as baking, playing a family board game to meditating using directed links. We wanted them to keep busy and active for their own wellbeing.
“The activities are accessible for everyone and are on a chart that can be ticked off, so students/families can see the progress they are making on their daily challenges.”
