Singers perform at competition regional final
Posted: 18th February 2019Young singers worked with professionals as they performed their way into the finals of a regional competition.
The 15 students from Year 8 to 10 at Forest Hall School made it through to the regional final of the Jack Petchey Glee Club Challenge.
The music and dance education programme, for 11 to 25-year-olds, aims for participants to grow their performance ability, teamwork skills, self-discipline and confidence by taking part.
Jack Petchey ran a 45-minute workshop with the singers to see how well they responded and picked up what was being asked of them.
Having joined the school’s Glee Club and practised twice a week, they attended a boot camp before the regional final at Civic Theatre, Chelmsford.
Julia Lysons, music teacher, said: “At the boot camp, students worked with a professional vocal coach, performance director and choreographer. They performed a song and dance and received feedback and tips on how to improve.
“It was great to have that experience with professionals from within the industry. It gives them confidence to be able to speak in public and in front of audiences and confidence in themselves. If they can do this on stage in front of strangers, they can do it anywhere.”
Parents attended the evening performance.
